shopping cart options and how do i get started

I need some advice with implementing a shopping cart onto my site. I have various websites and blogs that i run, but this is the first time i will attempt ecomerce. There are so many carts out there, all i need is something simple but doesn't limit me in terms of the number of products i can put up. thanks
